In 2012, Fundación Botín continued to support the Caritas Primary Care Programme, implemented through Diocesan parishes. Food aid was the most sought-after.
The food kitchen run by the Daughters of Charity (Cocina Económica de las Hijas de la Caridad) continued to offer its canteen service for the needy as well as its Emmaus homeless shelter, a night-time facility which operates in winter and offered shelter to 164 people in social emergency situations.
The Foundation also cooperated with Proyecto Hombre in Cantabria to support the rehabilitation of drug addicts, and with Fundación Integra to rescue young people at risk of exclusion and enable them to start a new life through work; this programme had 63 beneficiaries in 2012. Thanks to the support of Fundación Botín, the Talleres Juveniles Brumas workshops run by the Cantabria Association against Unemployment in 2012 helped 66 young people at risk of social exclusion.
Other aid provided in 2012 was for Cantabria Acoge, which helped 63 families, and for Obra Social Oscus, which conducted twelve workshops, in both cases for immigrants; also for students with special needs from Colegio Torreanaz and Guardería Marqués de Valterra, and to provide Escuela Hogar de las Operarias Misioneras with an industrial washing machine. Likewise, in 2012, Fundación Botín worked with Fundación Secretariado Gitano on the leisure and free time programme it implements in partnership with pupils from the Gypsy community of Colegio María Sanz de Sautuola, in Santander.
Lastly, Asociación Banco de Alimentos (the Food Bank Association) again received the Foundation's support to maintain the administrative employee who helps this institution carry out its work in Cantabria.
